Richard Hayes
Executive Director

Rick Hayes began his duties as Executive Director on July 1st, 2006.

Hayes is no stranger to Dayton or DATV. He served as DATV’s (then Access-30-Dayton) Operations Manager from 1986 until 1987 under DATV’s founding Executive Director Roxie Cole.

Hayes is only the fourth Executive Director in DATV’s 28 year history. He is replacing John Rocco who left DATV in January to become Executive Director of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Public Access Corporation in Charlotte, North Carolina.

”I am excited about the opportunity to return to Dayton and to DATV. The citizens of Dayton are fortunate to have a center that leads the access movement in providing vital community services and receives such strong community support in return,” said Rick Hayes, DATV Executive Director. “I look forward to helping DATV grow even further in the future.”

Most recently, Hayes has been Logistics Coordinator at the Allen County Public Library during an 11 building construction project in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Before that, he was Executive Director of Community Access Partners in Ventura, California. From 1997 to 2001, he was Director of Cable Operations at the Miami Valley Cable Council in Centerville, Ohio. In addition, he served as Station Manager of Access Fort Wayne from 1987 to 1997.

Hayes has also proven himself a leader on the national level by serving as Chairman of the Board of the Alliance for Community Media for one year and on its Board for six years.

Hayes is a graduate of Indiana University’s School of Public an Environmental Affairs. In addition, he received a Masters of Public Administration from Indiana University-Purdue University in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

 
Steve Ross
Operations Manager

Steve is a 1982 graduate of Fairmont State College in Fairmont, WV. After graduating from college, Steve was hired by WKEF-TV Ch. 22 in Dayton as a Production Assistant. In 1984, Steve was promoted to Director and began directing news, commercials, promos, and various public informational programming for WKEF.

In 1989, Steve left WKEF to take over the reins of Operations Manager of DATV (then Access 30 Dayton.) In his 16 years with DATV, Steve has seen many changes in Dayton’s public access facility. With a new building in 1992 and nearly 10,000 square feet, DATV has become more vital to the community and to the mission of public access television in Dayton.

Steve was asked about working for DATV, “I love it! It’s a great place to work. I love the people I work with and the people who use the facility.” “And I’m very excited over the technological changes we’ll be making in the next couple of years.”

Steve has produced various community programs including; The Juneteenth Celebration, Mountain Days and the Inventing Flight Opening Ceremonies. He is currently producing the DATV series Appalachian Crossroads.

 
Dorothy Beatty
Volunteer Coordinator

Dorothy began her career at DATV as a Volunteer and Producer in 1986.  In 1988, she was hired as Program/Volunteer Coordinator.

Due to the expansion of the Volunteer Services Department in 1992 Dorothy was charged with running the volunteer department full-time.

As Volunteer Coordinator, she holds monthly orientation meetings for new members, registers members for classes, organizes productions crews for programs and produces a monthly volunteer calendar.

 
Dan Suffoletto

Dan has worked at DATV for 19  years, during which time he has served as a Production Assistant, Program Director and Marketing Director.

Before coming to DATV Dan was a Producer/Director at WKEF-TV in Dayton. And is a graduate of The University of Dayton.

During his years at DATV Dan has received various awards for his work in Community Programming. Including Hometown USA Video Awards, Philo T. Farnsworth Video Awards, The Telly Awards, the Videographer Awards, the Southern Sunshine Video Festival and the Hometown USA Video Festival.

Some of the programs he has produced include: Culture Scene, Dayton Celtic Festival, Meet The Candidates, Dayton Children's Parade, Dayton Heart Ball, Downtown Dayton Day, Downtown YMCA: Keeping Dayton Fit, Urban Nights, Mardi Gras 2000, The Challenger Center, The National Folk Festival, The Bomberger Teen Center Talent Show, A World A'Fair and the Montgomery County Courthouse Restoration".

As a strong advocate for community media, he has been a presenter and organizer of numerous Alliance for Community Media Conferences and had the honor of designing the 25th Anniversary logo for the Alliance.

 
Melissa Mills
Program Director

Melissa was hired at DATV, June 12th, 1984 as the receptionist.  Since then she has advanced to the position of Program Director beginning in 1994.

Melissa was very active in the Alliance for Community Media, she served from 1997-2004 as the Grassroots Chair of the Central States Region.  As chair, she was responsible for raising money to help send people to Regional and National Conferences.

From 2001-2004 Melissa became the Vice Chair of the Central States Region of the Alliance for Community Media and the Ohio/Kentucky Chapter of the region.

She was elected to the National Board of the Alliance for Community Media for a 2 year term from 2002-2004.

Melissa has produced various programs at DATV, including The Dayton Ambassadors In Concert, Here at Home and Hot Country Video Hits.  You can also see her on DATV as host of the 1999 Children's Parade, the 1999 Southeast Dayton Days Parade and the 2000 & 2001 Children's Parade.

In 2001, Melissa received a Hometown USA Video Award for her program A Road of Memories: The Life And Times of Roxie Cole, which she produced with Rick Latimer of DATV.

 
Dale Grow
Production Assistant

Dale Grow has worked in the television industry for over a decade. He began at WPTD/WPTO PBS in Dayton, Ohio where his first duty was floor directing and camera. Dale worked his way up the ladder to become a successful producer for the station's annual pledge drive.

Years of experience working as an Independent Contractor for networks like FOX Sports Net, The Nashville Network and ESPN earned him an opportunity to be the Assistant Tech Manager for SPEED Channels coverage of "Arenacross" at Nationwide Arena in Columbus.

Dale went to work for Unity Media Limited based in Cincinnati, Ohio where he managed the everyday production and operations for WWRD TV 55 as well as a voice over talent and commercial producer for WUCT WB51 in Dayton, Ohio. Dale Joined the DATV family in 1995 and has produced programs such as: The Old Time Newsies, Mud White and Blues, Motorsports Mania and has recently completed his first film "Coming Up For Air" which has been selected for a screening in the "Frankly Film Fest".

Dale is married to Jennifer Grow RN and has two children: Maggie Mae who is 4 years old and 5-week old Benjamin Jacob.


Andy Copp
Production Assistant

Andy Copp comes to DATV from KIT-TV , Tipp City’s cable access channel. where he was the Administrative Coordinator. He was also the Community Coordinator at MVCC for 4 years.

Andy is also the producer of Neon Madness seen on DATV. 

In addition to his video work he is teaches a film class at Sinclair Community College and has written a DVD review column in the Dayton City Paper.

Pat Jessee

Pat Jessee received her B.A. degree from Wright State in 1982 and retired from there in 1993. She was hooked on making her own videos after taking a graduate television class at WSU and became a DATV producer in 1994 after completing the Field Production workshops. She became a staff member in 1995. Most of the shows she has produced are documentaries, such as, "Kiser: A Special Place", "AIDS: A Four Letter Word", and now, she is beginning to work on a new one titled, "Pigskin Glory."
 
Greg Tucker

Greg is a part time production assistant. His duties include helping producers with their programs and teaching video production workshops. He wrote and directed the movie Before Dawn and he is currently producing the program Hometown Showcase.

Patrick is a part time production assistant.  He teaches various workshops and helps producers with their programs.  He also produces numerous programs for DATV including the popular Ghost Hunters series and the Miss World A'Fair Pageant.
